I had a mini schnauzer for 17 years and she was absolutely the most wonderful dog I have ever been owned by. I just lost her a week ago. She did not bark much, she never did any digging and she was very trim with just a walk on the leash around the block. I'm not sure that there are any dogs that would not need some type of exercise. She wanted to be with me always. I found this endearing. In talking to others in the show ring, I found that the barking and digging thing seems to be a myth about these dogs. My schnauzer was more than happy to lay in my lap, or at my feet. She just wanted to be with me. She as well as other schnauzers that I have had the privilege of knowing are very loyal. They do not tolerate other dogs well. I found this out after it was too late. Make sure you socialize them early and often. My schnauzer grew up with two cats and was very tolerant of other cats. She just didn't like other dogs very much. All in all, a truly wonderful companion. Please talk to other owners before you make a decision on whether this is the dog for you. You may be missing out on a truly wonderful friend who will worship you until the end.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1855276285056599610.post-51013878871732048302010-09-05T08:04:04.760-07:002010-09-05T08:04:04.760-07:00Also, "teacup" breeds are not recommende...Also, "teacup" breeds are not recommended, as they are usually delivered prematurely and can suffer seriously deleterious health effects as a result.

Further, dog fur itself does not cause allergic reactions in humans, it is the dander (skin).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1855276285056599610.post-64369812928806345522010-09-05T07:59:42.618-07:002010-09-05T07:59:42.618-07:00Miniature schnauzers are not "hyper" in ...Miniature schnauzers are not "hyper" in a terrier sense. In fact, this trait was bred out of the breed, and their temperament stands out versus all other terriers. Imagine, for instance, a mini versus say a jack russell or westie? They don't even compare in energy level or hard-headedness.

There is very little terrier in the lineage of the miniature schnauzer (the affenpinscher providing the only terrier-like genetic background). I have a five month old mini and he is extremely calm, as were his parents, as are many others that I have encountered.

The secret is in the training and making sure the dog has enough exercise. If you aren't doing your part as dog owner (plenty of physical AND mental exercise, since this is a very intelligent breed), this dog will become seemingly "hyper" in order to release that pent up energy.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1855276285056599610.post-45937513857257023262008-11-24T20:48:00.001-08:002008-11-24T20:48:00.001-08:00Great info on the Mini Schnauz! I think terriers in general need a lot of exercise. Maybe you should look at a breed from another group.

Sounds like the person you saw has emotional issues.
