Everything In A Name

One subject I've been avoiding for the last 10 months has been a name. When my husband and I originally decided we wanted a Corgi, we decided that we'd go with Ein, in recognition of the dog that got us looking into the breed (well that was all my husband, I knew about Corgis before Cowboy Bebop). Well now that it's months later and I've been out in the dog world a bit, I now know that like 1/3 of all PWCs out there are named Ein, which has completely put me off the name. It's too bad because it's a great dog name. It's easy, yet distinct, and according to my husband dogs do well with having one syllable names. But I feel like that would be naming my son John. Sure, it's great name, but everyone else has it, which for some reason makes me a lot less excited about it. Plus, somewhere along the way my husband conceded that Ein would only be suitable if our puppy is a male. We've got no ideas if we get a female.

So what I'm wondering is, what's a good name (male or female)?? I know that I don't like just normal people names (like George or Maggie), or cliche dog names (like Bear or Buster), or names that sound like they came from a 5 year old (like Sparkle, Sprinkle, Star, etc). No offense if your dog is named any of these. There's nothing wrong with them, they're just not for me and my first puppy!

If you guys have any ideas for a good dog name, please leave me a comment!

I too, hope that you get a female corgi to avoid the "Ein" name :) I was at the corgi picnic over the weekend, there were 100 owners and corgis and as soon as someone started calling "Ein", a lot of corgi's responded...

one of the most memorable name that i've heard was "leelu dallas multipass" from the movie "5th element".

LOL! An interesting name, to be sure, but not one I think I'll copy. :p Love that movie though.

Oooh, I vote a BIG N-O to Ein, everyone and their mom has an Ein! I like old fashioned human-ish names like Marjorie and Enid and Gary but have known lots of dogs with cute non-human names. Fly is a popular one around here. One of my goldfish (now passed) was named Twidge, I always thought that was a cute name. Kit is a cute name for a corgi! Or Pluck or Tad or Skip. Or go old school and give it a registered name and then take your nickname from there.

I really like Bella, but my boyfriend wants to name the dog with something that ends in "y", so it's a no go for me. I also vote no on Ein. Cute, but waaaay overused.

Man, Ein is taking a beating! 3 No's so far! I'll have to let my husband know. So far he hasn't cared.

Hmm, I appreciate the suggestions, but so far nothing really jumps out at me... Keep 'em coming! :)

ha. we ran into the very same problem. in fact we were forced to call our corgi "dog" until we could think of a name that fit his personality. he was super quiet, had huge ears, and was my hero...so we named him link (yes the one from the video game, he's silent, a hero and has huge elf ears) and when we got our second one- a girl, it was easy to figure out her name- zelda~

:3 i would say if anything name him/her based on their personality rather than just a pretty name...

Ryoko, video games! Great idea! Link and Zelda is a very cute name combo.

I made another post about some more name ideas.
