Video Of The Week 26: Dougy's Mental Muscles

Kelly got to posting this before me, but I did want to talk about this new AKC S.T.A.R puppy program. Have you heard about it? It's like Canine Good Citizenship for puppies! It starts off with a pledge by the owners that they will be good puppy parents by keeping the puppy healthy, safe, and well mannered. Then there is a 20 part "test", part of which consists of making sure the puppy have been properly raised thus far, such as having the proper vaccinations, diet, and exercise. You can view the the full details of the test here. I love that you get the adorable medal...and yes, I know I'm a total consumer whore.

I think it's a really great idea. It gets people off on the right foot. For new owners it's a good checklist for learning the ins and outs of raising a puppy, and for experienced owners it can be a stepping stone to getting their CGC. I sure wish this was around when Theo was in puppy class. Heh, technically since Theo isn't yet a year old he could take it now. It would of course be totally ridiculous since he already passed his CGC test...but funny too. ;) I plan on emailing my trainer and asking if she's planning on incorporating this into her classes. He is so well trained! It's funny to see how some of Theo's movement are obviously "Corgi moves". They lay down the same way, they roll over the same way, etc. Hehe. Congrats on teaching him bang! Theo hasn't gotten this one down. He always goes straight into a roll when I try it with him.

Video Of The Week 25: Philip The Corgi

I had the good luck and great pleasure of meeting Philip the Corgi and his owner at this month's Corgi meetup. Turns out Philip and Theo kind of love each other. Well ok, Philip seems to love just about anyone, even Cardis who go for his jugular, but Theo loved playing with him and Theo hasn't been much into playing with other dogs ever since he started his fetch obsession. So I was so happy to see them get along famously. If you want to catch a glimpse of Philip in all his adorableness, check out this video. It's seriously cute.



He had that sweet, playful attitude when I saw him at the meetup. He's really a great pup. You're a lucky one Philip's owner!

Or DVRs or VCRs or...whatever came before VCRs (betamax?). Anyway, tomorrow (Saturday) night Animal Planet is airing an episode of Dogs 101 that will feature non other than my favorite type of furball, the PWC! I'll call this the video of the week: homework required. ;)

From their schedule it looks like it airs at 8pm e/p, and then again at 11:00pm, and then again at 3:00am, so if your Tivo throws up all over itself and somehow can't manage to record the show (like mine often does), there are several other chances to watch!

It looks like this episode will also feature the Jack Russell Terrier, the Vizsla, and the German Shepherd. So, wait, we don't get a full 60 minutes devoted just to Corgis? I know I could talk about Corgis for 60 minutes, easily (in fact I often do!). But I would be grateful for just 10 minutes of airtime. Corgis are definitely lacking on the silver screen if you ask me. I'm curious what aspects of the breed they'll focus on.

And as much as I would love to take credit for being so considerate as to alert you all to this wonderful program, the thought didn't actually cross my mind until a wonderfully nice woman from Animal Planet emailed me and asked if I would mind spreading the word. She also asked me to tell everyone that "in case folks don't get a chance to catch the show - we'll have a special corgi clip on the Animal Planet website that will go up sometime over the weekend."

So there you have it. Will you be checking out Dogs 101 tomorrow night? I know I want to...cross your fingers for my Tivo to decide to function tomorrow!

What a sweetheart! I am loving him on that treadmill. I so miss the way Theo used to waddle when he was a younger puppy. It's too cute!

Video Of The Week 23: Ferocious Theo

I know I talk about Theo playing fetch a lot on this blog, but what can I say? It's just what he's been doing a lot of lately. It's hard to describe the little noises that a Corgi makes to non-Corgi owners. Check out my adorable little brat of a puppy insisting that I play fetch with him:



This is how Theo talks to me. Sometimes people hear it and get scared, thinking that he's growling and being aggressive, but anyone who has a Corgi knows this just isn't the case! He's just saying "play with me! Do it! Throw this!" Hehe. This video cracks me up! He was being extra bratty that evening.

The very end of the video is how I end my fetch sessions with Theo. I always tell him when it's going to be the last throw. I know the video is dark, but you can kind of see how his eyes go all googly when I say it. After I throw it and he fetches it, I say "all done!" so he knows the playtime is over. Sometimes he accepts it, sometimes he doesn't. Hehe.

Just please don't mind the mess in my house. We still have stuff temporarily all over the place because of the remodel.

Video Of The Week 22: For Nerds

Go check out The Food Bowl for a really interesting video they posted on how dogs drink. I know, I know. Who cares? Well that's how I felt until I watched it and saw the slow motion of a dog drinking water and it was so neat! Did you know they curl their tongue backwards to form a kind of dipper? It'll leave you staring at your dog the next time s/he takes a drink of water. Hehe.

I just saw this awesome video of a corgi doing flyball. I can't ever see being able to train Theo to do this event, but boy would it be adorable to see his booty flying over all those hurdles. Hehe. Enjoy!

Videos of the week are back! The plan is to have videos of my own adorable little Theo in here when I can. So far I only have one video though! I'll have to get better at capturing his adorable moments. This video is Theo vs. the water bottle. What you're not seeing is the first few minutes of when I first gave it to him. He kept barking experimentally at it, and then jumping away. It was so funny! I hope you think so too.



I love the part where he lays down with another toy but still manages to throw a disapproving bark the bottle's way. Evil bottle!

This week I perused the mycorgi.com videos section and decided the cutest video was Gonzo, was was featured getting a bath a few weeks back. This time he's just had a bath and is running all over the place trying to get dry. It's totally hilarious. He sure gets a lot of baths!




Also, I wasn't planning to show two videos this week. But I also saw this video demonstrating the awesomeness of the FURminator, and I thought it'd be a good thing to pass along as well. Enjoy!
