Needy

Since yesterday, Theo has been acting especially needy. I was at work most of the day, but Husband said he was in constant demand of attention, which is abnormal for him because usually he wants attention in the mornings and evenings, but in the afternoons he naps the day away. And even when he does want to play, it's never constant. When I got home he was a total bundle of energy! He was practically bouncing off the walls. I can't prove it, but I told Husband he probably fed him too much, and he was just trying to work off all the extra energy. He denied it of course, but what else could explain it?

Then this morning I put Theo behind the gate and went upstairs to get ready for work. He freaked. He barked and barked and barked until Husband got up to go downstairs and sit with him. That helped for a few minutes, then every time I made a noise, I could hear him barking again. He didn't stop until I came downstairs to sit with him too. It was so strange! We put him in doggie daycare for the day, and we start his next training class tonight, so hopefully by the time we get home he will have significantly mellowed.

How do you like doggy day care? I'm about to make an appointment for Lucy for her temperament test...

We love it. Whenever we pull into the parking lot Theo goes ballistic with excitement! I thought he'd be lonely and hate it there, but he loves it. This way he actually gets more interaction than when we leave him at home, so I guess it makes sense. We pay $5 for him to have a one on one play session with a person, they feed him lunch, and they take him out to exercise and go to the bathroom 4 times a day.

What kind of temperament testing are you doing? That Volhard one? I wonder how Theo would do with one of those, hehe.

PS: Doggy Day Care is expensive to do on a daily basis. It works for us right now because of the construction going on in our house. Unfortunately, it won't be an everyday thing after it's all done. It just costs too much for us. Too bad! :(

i'm assuming that $5 is an extra for the one on one play time?

Yeah. It's $20/day plus an extra $5 for the one on one play session. On a day to day basis, that's not much money. What's $25? But that's $125 a week! That ends up being over $6,000/year. I ain't got that kind of monies, as much as I would like to.

Theo needs a bud to play with at home. Mum brought Cooper home for me and now we sleep most of the day when she is away. All my destructive habits dropped and I just lounge on the couch.

Theo is "frapping" which is what corgis do to burn off excess energy. I tend to run up and down the hallway or take a toy and turn around and around until I am too dizzy to stand up. I have a rope off our apple tree and I will even swing on that. Ball throwing and retrieving is a good way to burn off energy too.

Or Theo could come to our house and stay for the summer and play with me! I'll send you Coop and Dottie, all they do is sleep and ask for love. And eat of course.

Love, Dozer

There was some definite frapping going on that day. He doesn't do it much, since we make sure he gets a lot of exercise. I think he was just bouncing back from the surgery or something. I would love to get Theo a companion of the canine persuasion, but in our current living situation, it's just not going to happen. Anyways, he's a handful by himself without a second rascal egging him on. ;)

He's not destructive, though, except eventually to his own toys. There's been only one or two incidents since we got him where we caught him chewing on something he wasn't supposed to. He's always been great with that.
